2007-09-23 The Invisible

This is a drama about a couple of teenagers with different social backgrounds. There is Nick who lives alone with his mother since his father has died. They are  well-of financially wise but Nick doesn't feel that he gets the support he needs from his mother, especially regarding his writing. Nicks friend, Pete, is an ordinary middleclass kid whose life we don't get to know very much about. And then there is the tough Annie, who has become involved in criminal circuits since her mother died and her father has married an other woman. She is close to her younger brother but doesn't feel like the rest of her family cares about here.

Annie, who wrongly thinks that Pete has squealed on her for a robbery she has done, wants to get back at him. Pete, says that it was Nick that has squealed to get off the hook. He says that it is Nick because he thinks that Nick has left the country for a trip to London. However, Nicks plane is delayed so he is still in town. Annie and her gang gets a hold of Nick and starts to beat him up. Nick gets badly injured and he is left for dead in a well hidden storm drain in the woods.

Next day we see that Nick is back at school, just like nothing has happened. It soon turns out that nobody else can see him, he is invisible to the rest of the world. At first he thinks he is dead but soon finds out that he is in a place somewhere between life and death. He now has to make sure that his body gets found before he really dies. This turns out to be very hard since he can't communicate with the normal living people. As it turns out, the only one he seems to be able to get through to is Annie, the one who almost killed him. At first he is very angry on her but soon gets to know her like another person.

I think this was a well played and directed movie with many beautiful scenes and an overall good "feel" about it. It was also interesting to see how they cinematographically solved the fact that Nick seemed to be able to interact with people and objects in the real world but that he actually wasn't.

This movie has a rather low rating on IMDB but I think it deserves more. Even though it wasn't the best movie I have seen, it is definitely worth seeing.

I give this a 7+ out of 10.
