#2 2007-03-28 Why do things happen
This one is simple you might say. And it actually is -
Things happen because they can happen. And now to the important
part - If anything can happen, it will happen given enough time.
That is, if anything can happen, how improbable it ever is, it
will happen for certain, given infinite time.
This reflection
may not mean very much in our day to day lives, sure someone
will win the lottery (because it is possible) and someone may
get hit by a bus (again because it is possible), but these
things don't happen to everyone simply because we don't live
long enough.
Why is this so important at all then? You might ask. Well, in
the bigger picture, in the history of our universe, where we
can talk about a very long time, things really can happen. Even
things like life. And because it can happen in one place it will
also happen in other places, given enough time.
So this is my logic explanation to why there exists life on
other planets. This and that it seems to have been fairly easy
for life to rise and evolve in all different forms and shapes on
this planet. There is practically not one place on the surface
of this planet which is completely without any form of life. |
